“My individual choices or actions, when multiplied by those of young people throughout the country, will make a difference. Together, by honoring this pledge, we can reverse the violence and grow up in safety.“

The Pledge began in 1996. Over 10 million students have signed the pledge.

Our Voices of Black Mothers United (VBMU) initiative supports and has committed to the observance of the Day of National Concern – a nationwide event honoring “the role that young people themselves can play in helping to reverse violence.” Under the leadership of our VBMU mothers, in October 2022, over 69,522 students in eight cities took a pledge not to use violence to resolve conflict and to make better choices.

Join us Wednesday, October 16th as our VBMU moms once again participate in the Day of National Concern to encourage students to acknowledge the importance of their own choices when it comes to breaking cycles of violence in their communities by choosing to solve conflict in healthy, restorative ways.
