We are thrilled to share the transformative impact your support has had on underserved communities nationwide! Thanks to your unwavering commitment, the Woodson Center is proud to announce a new year of mini grants. This month, we will be awarding grants to community-based organizations.
For decades, The Woodson Center has awarded specially-tailored grants to grassroots organizations to help them grow their services. These grants are essential to empowering our community healers to implement life-saving projects that address urgent needs within their communities.
For many of our mini grant recipients – like LaKisha Cohill in Birmingham, Alabama – we are their first source of funding.
“Years ago, I initiated a small photography project, and recruited 25 children who were involved in selling drugs to participate in my photography workshop,” said Cohill. “After completing the program, their lives were changed. The Woodson Center was the first organization to believe-in and fund my work.”
Since becoming a CAN affiliate, Lakisha has been able to expand her programming so that she now serves over 500 children.
Jon Ponder, another mini grant recipient and the founder of Hope for Prisoners in Las Vegas, Nevada, offers reentry services and support to formerly incarcerated individuals. “With the foundation laid by the Woodson Center’s financial and training support, Hope for Prisoners has been able to scale its operations and become self-sustaining,” said Ponder. “We now hope to replicate our model throughout the state of Nevada.”
We can’t wait for you to see the results of all our grant winners’ amazing projects next year! Thank you for being an essential part of our mission. Your dedication is shaping brighter futures for countless individuals and communities across the nation.
