As many art programs in DC public schools are experiencing budget cuts, DC Strings is approved as a DC Public Schools Program Provider to administer music education programs both in and out of the school year, such as summer afterschool programs and community concerts. DC Strings has even been able to provide opportunities to showcase their skills and share their love of music outside of the school, performing at the Kennedy Center and international venues including the Embassies of Spain, Great Britain, and France.
“At these concerts, our students use music to retell untold stories from black history, honoring the remarkable contributions of African American trailblazers in the music industry,” said Andrew. “Their work not only inspires but also allows many of the students they serve to see themselves reflected in these narratives.”
With the support of the Woodson Center, we aim to expand our impact, addressing the needs of our communities through music and offering enhanced educational and career opportunities.
