Bob Woodson and Dr. Bernard Anderson: A Sensible Discussion on Race in America

During this time of intense and dangerous polarization around the issue of race, there are few, if any places, where the public can hear a forthright and honest discussion between people who hold contrary opinions. This Saturday C-SPAN’s Washington Journal will feature such a critically-needed conversation with Bob Woodson, President and Founder of the Woodson Center, and Dr. Bernard Anderson, Whitney M. Young, Jr. Professor of Management at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

“Bernie is solidly anchored in the Democratic liberal worldview while my journey led to a more conservative worldview.Though our political views are sharply different, we both have a deep and abiding respect for each other and call one another friends,” said Woodson. In fact, the two grew up within blocks from each other in the same West Philadelphia neighborhood. Both later shared a common commitment to uplift and strengthen the black community but, as they pursued that calling, their lives would lead to diverging pathways and strategies.

“This conversation will be as much about listening and understanding from another perspective as about explaining our own views. I hope to learn from this engagement,” said Bob, “My hope is that it may inspire others to follow our example and return a level of comity to public discourse as we join together to identify solutions to some of our nation’s most pressing problems.”
